EMHS Coaching Philosophy

Our program has standards in place to insure success and accountability, both on and off the court. We have the AAA approach to success:

Coach Cowherd, Varsity Head Coach

Shane Cowherd comes to Edmond Memorial as a nine year veteran of high school and college basketball. He spent the last seven years at Western Heights--four as head coach. During that time his teams amassed a record of 59 and 39. Coach Cowherd also led the girl's soccer program at Western Heights as head coach for 7 years. Before his stint at Western Heights he spent two years as a grad assistant at Southern Nazarene University--during which SNU reached the national title game. Coach Cowherd played high school basketball in Michigan, where his teams played in four state title games--winning 3.

Coach Cowherd is a graduate of Southern Nazarene University--graduating in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science in History and English--with a minor in secondary education. He has been married to Marla for 6 years, and they have two children, Treven (3 years old) and Cambryn (1 month).

"The legs feed the wolf, gentlemen."
- Herb Brooks, Head Coach, 1980 US Olympic Hockey Team

Before that he was an assistant(2 yrs) and head basketball coach(9 yrs) in Texas, including stops in North Texas and the Texas Panhandle. Coach Pendergrass is a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, LA. He graduated from SLU with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Kinesiology in 1991. He has been married to Cindy for 18 years; they have three children: Britni (8th grade), Brett (6th grade), and Brynn (kindergarten).
